Symphony in C
The mission of Symphony in C is to maintain a world class symphony orchestra that provides training for tomorrow’s musicians, music directors, composers, and soloists; well-rounded, artistically excellent performances for a variety of audiences; and access to classical music and education programs for children, particularly those in its home community of Camden NJ.
Symphony in C accomplishes its mission in a variety of areas, each with its distinct target population. In the process, audiences in Southern New Jersey and the region have the opportunity to hear some of the nation’s finest emerging artists perform together in what amounts to a “super orchestra,” able to compete musically with any of the world’s great ensembles.
The Symphony’s music education programming, “Music Matters,” is directed primarily toward economically disadvantaged children and youth, K-12, and their families who reside in Camden, its New Jersey suburbs, and in North Philadelphia. Symphony in C’s innovative multi-layered approach to music education provides meaningful and sustained change through long term involvement with its young professional musicians, who serve as role models and mentors.
“Music Matters” programs include: After School Music Lessons at 5 Camden Catholic Partnership Schools, Symphony Summer Camp at Rutgers-Camden, Symphony in C Youth Orchestra, Concerts for Young People, and Classroom Symphony. www.symphonyinc.org.
