CFSJ Grants & Support

  • In 2010, a $7,500 grant was given to the Food Bank of South Jersey, Inc. To support Operation Frontline: a national nutrition education program that teaches families in Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester County how to make healthy and budget-wise food choices with a cooking-centered approach to nutrition education.
  • A $5,000 grant was given to Camden Area Health Education Center, Inc. This grant was in support of the LGBT Youth Program which works with parents/guardians to help them understand and value their children and creating safe-spaces in schools and a climate in which bullying is not tolerated.
  • A $5,000 grant was given to Hispanic Family Center Southern New Jersey Inc. to support the Youth Afterschool Program which offers events designed to help parents get involved in the lives of the students in the program.
  • A $7,500 grant was given to The Cathedral Soup Kitchen, Inc. to support the Cathedral Kitchen meal program which serves nutritious meals to impoverished residents of Camden and surrounding communities.
  • A $5,000 grant was given to BPSOS – Delaware Valley. Boat People SOS, Inc. in support of the Road to Independence and Success through Education program which helps Vietnamese families achieve self-sufficiency, improve their economic and social well-being, and integrate into society.

Fun Facts:

  • The first drive-in movie theater was opened in Camden in 1933.
  • The first nearly-complete skeleton of a dinosaur was discovered in 1858 by William Parker Foulke in Haddonfield in Camden County.
  • The first condensed soup in America was cooked and canned in Camden County in 1897.
