Join the Team at CFSJ as Philanthropy Manager

The Philanthropy Manager plays a critical role in growing the Community Foundation of South Jersey’s (CFSJ) impact on an eight-county region. The Community Foundation’s asset development efforts involve creating new charitable funds, increasing existing funds, and supporting donors (fund holders) to achieve CFSJ’s mission. CFSJ donors and fund holders are critical partners in the mission to inspire generosity, manage and deploy permanent charitable assets, and exercise collaborative leadership to create a more equitable region.

The Philanthropy Manager is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and building strong relationships with existing and prospective donors. In addition to increasing fund holders and assets, the position will support professional advisor engagement, donor services and donor education, write grants and reports, and help track gifts —including cash and non-cash, deferred and testamentary.

The Community Foundation of South Jersey is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to building a diverse team and encourage applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Successful candidate must live proximate to one of the eight counties of South Jersey or be willing to relocate to the region within 3 months of starting the position.

Hammonton Summit Engages Neighbors

Neighbors hold the heart and soul of South Jersey communities and on January 30, 2023, Hammonton neighbors gathered to go public with a draft of a collective vision for the future of their town.

One of six Transform South Jersey communities awarded grants of $100,000 by the Community Foundation of South Jersey to support community planning, community endowment building, and the strengthening of community connections, the Hammonton Heart & Soul team has spent the past several years identifying resident leaders, mobilizing community voices, and gathering their neighbor’s stories and ideas on how to positively impact their community. From the themes that emerged in the listening and sharing of those stories, the team developed ten Heart & Soul statements, which identify what matters most and reflect what they love most about their towns. The team then planned the summit for the broader community to learn about and share feedback on the statements.

To ensure all voices are represented in determining Hammonton’s future, each team member personally invited at least ten other community members to participate in the summit. They also advertised to the public through ads in the paper and social media in both English and Spanish.

Their efforts were rewarded, with the turnout for the summit surpassing even the expectations of the organizers. It represented the demographics of the town by age and ethnicity. Some of the significant contributions even came from young people. Each table had a facilitator to ensure all participants had the opportunity to have their voices heard. Translators were available and babysitters were on hand to help families with small children stay involved.

Although the original information-gathering process would have looked much different without COVID-19 restrictions, it still provided a strong base upon which to add new insights from this in-person gathering. Organizers left the summit inspired by the people who came and participated, many of whom had not previously been engaged. When given the opportunity though, they were eager to help share their thoughts on how to improve the community.

Round Seven COVID-19 Response Fund Grants

Twenty nonprofits in South Jersey receive a total of $101,000 in grant awards in the latest round.

The Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) will award 20 nonprofit organizations $101,000 in a seventh round of grants from the South Jersey COVID-19 Response Fund.  This announcement includes funding for Phase 2 – Treatment and Phase 3 – Recovery requests. Details about these phases are available on the Fund website. With these awards, 173 grants totaling $1,169,500 have been distributed from the Fund to organizations serving Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, and Salem counties. These organizations are serving those families affected by the pandemic and related economic hardship.

“To date, nearly 300 funding requests from nonprofit partners across the region have been received totaling more than $4,000,000,” said CFSJ Executive Director Andy Fraizer.  “From that total, the review committee has considered 235 submissions for funding. The majority of these grants are funded to supplement lost revenue due to closures, cancellations, or other business model changes resulting from the pandemic.”

“Nonprofit organizations are where people turn to in times of need,” said Wanda Hardy, Chairperson of the Foundation’s Programs and Services Committee. “We remain committed to providing assistance to as many organizations as possible who are delivering critical services for those in need during these still difficult times.  Recovery for many remains a long-term challenge, the Community Foundation of South Jersey will continue to support efforts making a  positive impact in vulnerable communities across the region,” Fraizer concluded.

Since the launch of the South Jersey COVID-19 Response Fund in March of 2020, The Community Foundation of South Jersey has raised nearly $1,370,000, well exceeding the initial goal of $1,000,000.  For more information on how individuals or organizations can make a donation, CFSJ funding priorities, or how to apply for a grant, please visit southjerseyresponsefund.org
