The Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) wants our neighbors to know board members for their leadership and generosity. We asked board members a few questions to get to know them and learn about the values that drive their work.
As a lecturer in Foreign Languages at the University of Pennsylvania, Teresa Giménez strives to inspire, challenge, and empower her students every day. She encourages them to think critically so that they are prepared to become responsible, active members of their communities. At the age of 19, she moved from Barcelona, Spain to the United States, and credits that move as a defining moment in her personal journey. She had developed skills to effectively communicate and understand people from different backgrounds. This ability is especially valuable in today’s interconnected, globalized society, and as a community leader with CFSJ.
Teresa is excited to participate in committees that work towards promoting diversity, equality, and social justice in South Jersey through CFSJ. She is looking forward to fostering connections with people in the community to address issues related to social justice.
What is South Jersey’s greatest asset?
PATCO is the best transportation system in South Jersey, offering an environmentally friendly, fast and reliable mode of travel throughout the area and into Philadelphia. Personally, as someone who loves visiting the city, I consider myself lucky to live just a short 2-minute walk away from the PATCO station.
What is your aspiration for South Jersey?
My aspiration for South Jersey is to ensure that its beautiful beaches and natural attractions are accessible to all, without the need for payment.
What is your aspiration for your philanthropy?
My aspiration for philanthropy is to master its art to make a meaningful contribution in the area of social justice, which is an issue close to my heart. I wish to further my knowledge and deepen my understanding of philanthropy, which is a relatively new area for me, but it is perfectly aligned with my personal values and aspirations.
What brings you joy or makes you experience gratitude?
Family is a source of joy and gratitude for me. They provide a sense of purpose and unconditional love. I derive happiness from giving love to my family and appreciate their unwavering support and understanding.
