Pineland Preservation Alliance
Ensuring that the Pinelands planning and conservation program succeeds in saving unique natural resources while promoting growth in the region’s established communities.
Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA) works to ensure that the Pinelands planning and conservation program succeeds in saving unique natural resources while promoting growth in the region’s established communities. PPA serves as the essential watchdog over government agencies and leaders, analyzing and reporting on actions that may harm or benefit natural resources; provides independent, science-based analyses of policies and plans; enables citizens to have their voices heard; educates the public, teachers and children; and fosters the broadest possible community of citizens who care about the Pinelands.
Key accomplishments include: raising the profile of the Pinelands throughout New Jersey; defending the integrity of the Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP), as in the recent Forest Area pipeline proposal; building an active constituency of citizens who speak out in support of the Pinelands; advancing land conservation through permitting processes and advocacy for the CMP, and educating thousands of teachers, students and residents through workshops, field trips, lectures and events.
PPA conducts analysis, advocacy and constituency-building focused on ensuring:
- The Pinelands Commission’s fourth Plan Review advances positive changes and does not weaken the CMP.
- The Commission follows the CMP and does not approve development that conflicts with CMP standards or results in diversions of protected lands for non-conservation purposes.
- The Pinelands Commission advances reforms to protect the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer and associated surface waters, habitats and natural communities.
PPA is a stalwart and effective advocate for one of New Jersey’s most precious natural resources, the New Jersey Pinelands, and is deeply committed to protecting the Pinelands for current and future generations.
